Oversized Bags

Delta Airlines charges a fee for oversized bags on its flights in all cabin classes. Passengers are always suggested to check the baggage size in advance so they can avoid paying oversize fees.  Cost of oversized bags:-

U.S./ Canada- $200

Brazil- $100 

Asia/ Middle East/ Australia/ India- $200

North/ South/ Central America- $300 / 345 CAD/ 250 Euro

Overweight Bags

Any baggage item weighing more than the weight allowed is considered overweight. Delta Airlines charges a fee for all overweight bags as per the policy.

Here are some tips to know about overweight bags:-

  • Within the United States and Canada, delta airline does not allow bags weighing more than 100lbs.
  • Delta airlines does not allow its passengers to carry bags more than 70lbs on flights between New Zealand and Australia.
  • For flights within North/South and Central America passengers cannot carry bags more than 70lbs of weight. 
  • Delta airlines flights to and from Europe, UAE, and South Africa does not allow passengers to carry bags more than 70lbs.  

Fees for overweight baggage:-

U.S./ Canada- $100 for 51-70lbs and $200 for 71-100lbs.

North America- 51-70lbs $150 USD/CAD

Mexico/ Central/ South America/ Caribbean- $100 USD/CAD for 51-70lbs and $200 USD/CAD for 71-100lbs

North/South/ Central America- 51-70lbs $100 USD/$120 CAS/ 85 EUR

Extra Bags     

Delta Airlines allows passengers to carry maximum 10 bags per passenger. The bags are all charged separately as per the cabin class. On delta carrier flights passengers can only check up to 4 bags and on delta airlines flights passengers are allowed to check up to 10 bags.

Delta Basic Economy Carry-on Luggage

Delta airlines allow economy passengers to bring one carry-on bag and one personal item which includes a briefcase, purse, laptop bag or small backpack for every passenger for free. The carry-on item should not exceed the following weight and size restrictions so the passenger doesn’t have to pay oversize and overweight fee.

The bag size should not exceed 45 linear inches including handles and wheels.

The carry-on item should be able to fit in the overhead bin or under the seat. It should be of the proper size to fit under the seat in front of the passenger.

Items like a jacket, diaper bag, assistive device, duty free shopping bags. Umbrella etc. do not count in carry-on baggage allowance.

As per the delta airlines policy, passengers are allowed to carry one personal item and one carry-on item per passenger for free.

Delta airlines does charge fee for baggage in the basic economy cabin from the passengers. The fee for baggage is also determined as per the destination and if you are a member of military or a frequent flyer or if you have a delta credit card.

Delta Basic Economy Checked Bag

Delta airline’s basic economy passengers get one carry-on item and one personal item per passenger free of cost. However, it charges $30 each way per checked bag per passenger and $60 for passengers from Europe each way.

Free checked baggage is not allowed for basic economy passengers on delta airlines flights. The basic economy allowances for delta airlines are more generous than any other airline. A fee is applicable for all the basic economy passengers no matter the flight is domestic or international.

How Many Bags You Can Bring On Delta Basic Economy

The basic economy passengers on delta airlines flight can check bags weighing up to 23kg of size 62 inches. The fee for checked baggage within United states and Canada is $30 for the first bag and $40 for the second bag.

For travel between the US and Canada to/ from Europe and North Africa the basic economy passengers need to pay $60 for the first checked bag and $100 for the second checked bag.

Also, first checked bag is free of cost for the standard economy passengers. The number and size of bags permitted by delta airlines in basic economy cabin vary as per the route travelled and the fare type.

Does Delta Basic Economy Allow Carry-on

Delta Airlines allows its passengers in all cabin class free carry on luggage. The basic economy passengers on delta airlines flight can also bring one carry-on item and one personal item free of cost. The item must be within the weight and size allowance. However, the items in carry-on must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of the passenger.

All the passengers on delta airlines basic economy re allowed free carry-on allowance as per the policy. However, the baggage must be within the weight and size allowance else the passenger would have to pay oversize or overweight fees.

Items like sports equipment, diaper bag, assistive device such as wheelchairs, duty free items, umbrellas etc. don’t qualify as free checked baggage.

Items like sports equipment like one golf bag also can be accepted as a normal item of checked luggage. Fee is applied to some of the items as checked baggage. $150 is charged to check a bike as hold luggage. Musical instruments can also be checked as hold luggage if they are within the size requirements like 150 inches in size and within 75kg in weight.

How Much Does Delta Charge for Extra Baggage?

Delta Airlines allows its passengers to check bags according to the following charges:-

First Checked Baggage- $30

Second Checked Baggage- $45

Third Checked Baggage- $150

Four to Ten Checked Bags- $200 for each bag

The size of the bags must not exceed 62 linear inches with handles and wheels for all these bags.

Oversize and overweight bags are charged a fee. Overweight bags between 23-31kg are charged $100 per item and bags between 32 and 45kg are charged $200 per bag. Bags more than 45kg or 100lbs are not allowed on delta airlines flights.
